About Portland
Muhnomah Falls Portland, Oregon, ranked as the number 2 city in America to live and play by Money Magazine, continues to attract travelers to their diverse and beautiful city. Portland is stationed where the Willamette and Columbia Rivers meet in the state of Oregon. The founders, Pettygrove and Lovejoy ingeniously planned and cultivated this city earning Portland such nicknames as the Green City or the City of Roses.

History of Portland : Lewis and Clark first explored and mapped the state of Oregon in 1804 during their western adventures. In 1843, William Overton and Asa Lovejoy happened upon a beautiful spot of land along the Willamette River where they made claim. Eventually, Overton sold his portion of the land to Fancis Pettygrove.

The city of Portland earned its name as the result of a coin toss between Asa Lovejoy and Francis Pettygrove in 1845. Lovejoy was from Massachusetts and wanted to name the new city Boston. However, Pettygrove, a native of Maine, won the toss and subsequently that is how Portland got its name. The two partners immediately cleared trees from the land and laid down roads to activate their plans for this new community in the Northwest.
